Council Tax

With the start of the financial year, thoughts of many householders are turning to this years' Council Tax. Do you think that you get good value for money from Denbighshire County Council's Council Tax? Yes? No?

Here are the facts, then make up your own mind.

Each household in Denbighshire is, this year, paying 40% more than the average householder in Wales.

Worse, your banding is at least one band higher than in most other parts of the United Kingdom. A typical example is (say) in Bedfrodshire where a three bedroomed house is in Band C, whereas here in Denbighshire the same house is in Band D. Ask your Couccellor why, and you'll likely get, at best, that glazed look - at worst, procrastination.

Tax band Denbighshire Welsh Average
Band A £748.35 £580.76
Band B £873.08 £677.55
Band C £997.80 £774.35
Band D £1,122.53 £871.14
Band E £1,371.98 £1,064.73
Band F £1,621.43 £1,258.31
Band G £1,870.88 £1,451.90
Band H £2,245.06 £1,742.28
Band I £2,619.24 £2,032.66

What can you do about it? Being of a cynical disposition regarding Denbighshire County Council, I'd venture nothing. At least you can get them to look at their budgets and expenditure by writing to, or emailing your Councillor and ask for an explananation. You can get your Councillor's address here.
